Nothing lasts forever. If Texas decides Ken Paxton deserves to be a United States Senator, then Blue States should call it a day and form an alliance with Canada.

The added benefit is that your tax dollars will no longer be used to keep Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana afloat. This shit is getting old.

mary M keymer's avatar

I wrote a piece on why we should secede from the union during his first term. Think about it the blue states send more tax dollars into the feds then any red states I can think of. We could form a sort of European Alliance. Let them have DC and the mouments we will keep the archives they don't read anyway. The military might be hard to figure out but it could be done. We could have healthcare and childcare for all ... Create a decent education system so that all the children are educated .. Community college could be free and be expected if the student doesn't want to attend a four year college .. The two year communtiy college can train young people for jobs that can give them a living wage. Anyway just some the thoughts from the edge. Pay no attention to the man behind the green curtain. Sometimes my Walter Mitty persona takes over. lost in america

I think California should secede and join Canada…imagine we could call our province South Canada!

Sorry to bore you with this again………BTW I agree with you 100%

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesusland_map

“……….dividing the United States and Canada into "The United States of Canada" and "Jesusland".[1] The map implies the existence of a fundamental political divide between contiguous northern and southern regions of North America, the former including both the socially liberal Canada and the West Coast, Northeastern, and Upper Midwestern U.S. states, and suggests that these states are closer in spirit to Canada than to the more conservative regions of their own country, which are characterized by the influence of Christian fundamentalism in their political and popular culture………"

It is definitely time to give this serious consideration. A plebiscite could be held in each blue state: "Would you rather remain part of MAGA USA or apply for status as a Canadian province?" I know my answer: apply as soon as possible; I suspect many on this site agree with me. I'm certain Steve Shmidt wants to continue the fight to preserve the union, but I would love to hear his analysis of the proposal.

Patricia Baron's avatar

So would I, Anthony. The question is, would Canada even want us?

Donna K. White's avatar

That was my question-Would Canadians even WANT us to become a part of THEIR country? We are a pushy, violent, and prejudiced people; no matter what political party we belong too, it is in our blood, that is how we have been brought up! There is a reason why other countries call us "ugly Americans"! Even the name the "United States of Canada", shows how bossy we are as a society! Why not just keep it as Canada? As American citizens, melting into the Canadian cultures and society, we would have to be willing to blend in, and accept the differences between the two countries, the two societies, and the many cultures, that would be blended together. After all, WE would be the immigrants! To be honest, we as Americans, especially white Americans, don't have a good track record, at the "give and take" process, we mostly take! Would Americans be willing to give up some of the rights and freedoms, and Amendments that our Constitution gives us, that Canada may not have for their citizens; for example, the 2nd Amendment? I don't think that Canada allows the type of semi-automatic weapons that Americans are allowed to have!

If I lived in Canada, I would think really hard before I invited American citizens/states, to be a part of my beloved country!

AND BTW: Canada is still a part of the United Kingdom, with King Charles and his heirs as Canada's figure heads! Would those Americans who attended the "No King" rallies be willing to have a real King again? Again, it is not in our American blood!

It is a great idea on paper, and compared to what kind of America we are living in now, Canada looks like the ideal country to be a part of; but it would take a lot of give and take, from both sides, to really make it work!

Martha MacRae's avatar

I have a feeling he wouldn't like it. He has a very strong and genuine love for his country. It would be a hard for him to ever abandon it - or split it up., I think.

John D.'s avatar

The truth is never boring.

Donna K. White's avatar

Well, this would solve our political problem, if it were done peacefully. It does present another problem, however; that of our Indigenous People, that we seem to screw over and over again! Living in the Southwest for all of my life, many of our public lands have been preserved because they are sacred to the Indigenous People. According to the map, many of the Southwestern states are colored in red. New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, the Dakotas, Alaska, and many more states include Indigenous Peoples' land! If trumpism has its way, they would permanently scare these sacred places with fracking, drilling, and strip mining! I don't know about others in "The Warning" family; but I am ashamed about our history with the Indigenous People, and I don't want to screw them over any more!

Husaria's avatar

Agreed. Our past is our past. It really bothers me how this admin is trying to erase our nation’s past history. We can't move forward unless we know where we have been.

If we did have a union with Canada there would be many, many issues to iron out.

Martha MacRae's avatar

Makes perfect sense! I wonder if it's something to do with the weather - i.e. important to have friends and neighbours when facing tough natural circumstances.

Husaria's avatar

Definitely the weather.

Heat and humidity results in hate and stupidity.

The majority of MAGALAND is in the south. It’s hot there a lot longer than it is in the north. And, it’s VERY hot there in the summer.

In the north when it snows people help other people out. Perfect strangers during a snow storm will lend a shovel and help push out a stuck car or they will shovel out an elderly neighbors driveway. Colder climates IMO foster a greater sense of community.

johanna hays's avatar

As a Blue State resident, I say we can only hope Canada will let us in.

Martha MacRae's avatar

We will very happily let you in, so long as you don't bring Trump and MAGA with you - although sad to say, there is a growing infiltration of MAGA in Canada - promoted by our great US Ambassador to Canada, the former head of State in the US and some promoters of the 10X app to interfere with voter information to promote Alberta separatism.

Husaria's avatar

Ah yes…..Alberta. The Texas of Canada. They want to go the way of Quebec now don’t they?

Donna K. White's avatar

If I am correct in saying; Alberta is the "oil Providence", and they want to separate for mainly econoimic reasons. It is more "conservative" than the other Providences. Like with trumpism, the people in the oil industry, feel threatened by the switching to clean energy, taking away their jobs and way of life. Many of the citizens relate to frump and his policies, especially with regard to keeping the oil industry strong. Quebec's desire to separate is cultural, and has been a desire of the French-Canadians ever since the British defeated the French, and took over Quebec Providence, around the same time as our nation's infancy. The majority of the citizens of Quebec Providence, originated from France. They are mostly Roman Catholic, and their primary language is still French. I am French-Canadian, and my blood lines, according to Ancestry, are 95% French on both my mother and my father's side!

Husaria's avatar

Alberta as well as the USA and Gulf oil states have what Racheal Maddow calls the “ Resource curse “ as in oil profits tend to corrupt govts and the people living under them.

The province of Alberta probably falls under this theory. And, yes Quebec has been trying to leave the Dominion since their loss at the Plains of Abraham.

mary M keymer's avatar

I think you are right !

johanna hays's avatar

Don’t let them get away with anything.

Martha MacRae's avatar

I like the way you think!

Hi Steve. Thank you for always delivering the truth, direct and dead on every single time. You make my day and bring hope as we are incomprehensibly assaulted by the Trump Regime constantly and without mercy. Those of us who are still able to think logically are appalled 😖

Carol Nichols's avatar

I echo your comments. Steven & the rest of the Lincoln crew keep me going with their insights & occasional humor. If I wasn’t retired, I don’t know how I’d cope with the daily grind. I absorb all I can , share & hide in one of my audiobooks listening to fiction & pretend it’s real for a while. If I couldn’t get my audiobooks for free through my “public library” I would be devastated after all the pedo president has destroyed & stolen from us, the people who actually pay the taxes he’s spending. I wonder sometimes why God hasn’t struck him down with his scenarios that he’s God himself. How sir, do you keep your sanity each day & keep moving forward with all you inspires & humor some days? God bless you & all the other brilliant people who are in the fight daily sharing the truth bravely.

In the upcoming campaigns for public office at every level, Democratic candidates should ask any Republican supporting Trump, "Did you believe Trump when he claimed he was portraying a doctor, who just happened to be dressed like Jesus, and with a background that looks spiritual and otherworldly?"

Other questions: "Do you think Trump's regime was justified in blowing up small boats by claiming, w/o evidence, that they were drug dealers?" If the answer is "yes," two follow-up questions would be appropriate: "Wouldn't stopping the boats, confiscating any drugs found, and questioning those on board to see if all were involved be a more judicious approach? Don't you think any involved should have been kept alive and questioned in an effort to find those more powerful in the cartel hierarchy?"

And so on......

Patricia Mary Skea's avatar

yes, and… They would not know what judicious means.

Donna K. White's avatar

The other day, a so called acquaintance (used to be a friend), who voted for frump three times, asked how I liked the two Democrats who are running for governor in our state. I told him that I haven't decided who I am going to vote for. One of the candidates a US Senator, who has been on oversight committees. This acquaintance then said, that that candidate is so mean, and nasty! I answered; "Oh and Jim Jordan, and frump aren't mean and nasty!" That shut him up! I then asked him what he had against the other candidate. His answer: "I didn't vote for him!" So sums up the thinking of a frumper!

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

Bottom line, most of them are thoughtless, listen to and believe Fox News and vote as their annointed leaders tell them to regardless of the consequences.

Joseph Folz's avatar

No President of ever was worse? And it is impossible to conceive that anyone ever could be worse.

Donna K. White's avatar

Unfortunately, I can imagine worse: J D Vance, Don Jr., Steven Miller, even Little Marco could be worse than frump! They all know the playing field and the plan, and what worked and what did not! And, they are all much younger than frump! They could be a dictator for decades! Yes, so far frump is the worst POTUS, but his time on earth is coming to an end, thank God!

Mary St.George's avatar

I can not believe that in the year we are to celebrate 250 years of independence, Washington DC has become a major construction site. Talk about poor planning. Many reasons why the east wing should not have been torn down or the orange mess trying to make a giant pool out of the reflection pond. And the money!

Donna K. White's avatar

I wonder if it is poor planning, or did frump planned this image all along. He is rewriting history, and now he is "remodeling" the monuments that reflect (pardon the pun) the history that he is rewriting. The image of a torn down East Wing, being remodeled into frump's gaudy, ugly, gold ballroom; and on the lawn of OUR White House, the ugly metal cranes, building a stage for fake "fighters" to fight, on the very day that our Forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, from a king! On the very day our nation will be celebrating democracy, freedom, and independence! This is frump's image of what America should be under the rule of frump and his followers; golden crap that surrounds frump , and fake "warriors"! Frump's arch of triumph, will block the Arlington Cemetery, where real heroes/presidents lay to rest; a reflecting pool that will reflect the corruption of the frump era. The banners of "dear leader's" ugly, angry face; the renaming of buildings in "dear leader's" name, not just in Washington, but throughout our country! Using our tax money to pay for all this useless crap! Not to forget, a war, that is all of frump's doing! Even in war, frump makes the outcome worse than it was to begin with! Once again our national debt is skyrocketing! It seems to always happen when the GOP/MAGA are in charge! Oh, but the stock market is just fine, so everything is wonderful! What corruption; what BS!! When will the cult followers open their eyes? Do they really want this for their children/grandchildren? When will the average American realize that their duty to OUR country, to safe our democracy, is to vote out this fascism regime once and for all! I think that I will be heavily drinking on July 4th!

Lyn M's avatar

This is a clown show with Trump as the chief clown and his jesters doing his bidding. But this isn’t entertainment…it is the destruction of our Country before our eyes.

Roemer McPhee's avatar

Long ago Trump heard that Michael Milken made $500 million in one year. Trump said, "Well, you can live on less than that."

Thank you, shithead. Try not to speak.

Declan's avatar

Mr. Schmidt neglects to mention that even IF Dems control all of Congress....they are pathetic quizzlings and will NOT REALLY do anything to repair this destroyed nation...they don't have the political will as they are compromised....like our boy Chuck Schumer....or cowards/gutless or plain stupid. I won't get too excited. It's a God damned shame.

Mary St.George's avatar

What exactly are the republicans doing right now to repair our nation? They are not republicans, they are sycophants helping to secure endless funds for the potus and his family and friends.

Declan's avatar

domestic terrorists.

It is so sickening to see and hear marco and pete fawning over donald -- I mean REALLY, doesn't the bile rise up into your mouth? -- it does mine. Used to think, at least marco was smart, but no more. What do these toadies think they will get out of this?! Like you began: "it's all on video." Yes, OUR WH is not just desecrated, but wrecked. But that they were truly drinking the poisoned Kool-Aid!! -- that would eliminate many from these OUR United States, never again to vote. (am I allowed to say this?!)

We have a little over 150 days to build the cybersecurity to protect the midterms from being hacked to manufacture an all-MAGA Congress. By his statements that he doesn't care about the midterms, comrade Krasnov has just announced that we are probably already too late.

What is this, if not that announcement? “They thought they were going to outwit me, you know, ‘we’ll outwit him, he’s got the midterms'. I don’t care about the midterms; look what happened last night, that was the prelude to the midterms.”

". . . look what happened last night (the night someone no one has ever heard of took the KY Rep. Thomas Massie down in the primary), that was the prelude to the midterms.”

Tracey Queripel's avatar

Steve, if you haven't already written about the theft of the 2024 election (and 2016, and the attempted theft of 2020) by comrade Krasnov, PLEASE DO SO NOW. If you have, please forgive me for having missed it, and maybe post a link. The sooner we can bust that scumbag and his ilk for stealing, the sooner we can end this nightmare.

The rubber-stampers are killing the country. Who let traitors and morons like Bondi, and Blanche, and Kash and Hegseth, into power? Trump is an evil child, but no one corrals him. They let the toddler with the handgun run free.
